Due to the dry and arid nature of the land, the people of Aegina, who remained on the island and did not emigrate, got occupied and involved with the sea, fishing, sponge fishing and lately tourism.
Some locals were involved in ceramics and pottery, in which the island has a long tradition with the creation of Aeginian pitchers. The territory of the island produces cereals, vegetables, olive oil, grapes, figs and almonds but primarily it produces the famous in Aeginian pistachios (Loudarou, 2015). |
